New research claims kids are dumber today because of technology; they don’t have to be creative when it comes to play. But why do we think we had more fun as a kid?  A couple of years ago, I wanted my son Sterling to experience the joy of building a tree house. I took him and his buddy Marshall to the Home Depot to get all the supplies. Ahhh the excitement.  For them, it lasted about 5 minutes.  I ended up doing all the work and they went back inside to play video games.

Have you ever heard a singer so good that you’d invite him to spend the night at your house so he could play the next night at the Uptown? My husband Jeff did just that. He saw Allen Stone at the SXSW music festival in Austin earlier this year and was blown away by his talent and wanted you to experience it. Tonight, Allen opens for Goodfoot, one of K.C.’s best R&B funk bands. There’s a $7 cover, all of which goes to the bands. I hope to see you there tonight at 7:00.

Today is National Free Hugs Day. Will you be hugging a stranger, or keep your arms to yourself, like your mama told you? Personally, if that cute guy in the office walks up to your cubicle to ask a question, I’d celebrate!

Big meeting at city hall in Prairie Village tonight to force a homeowner to tone down his annual Xmas display.Too much traffic and neighbors can’t sleep with all the blinky lights. How would you vote? This guy has been doing this for 40 years and it’s quite a tourist attraction, with his 3 dimensional, animated town.  By the end of the season, there’s no grass left in his front yard.
